Struggling with Faith A person's faith and spirituality and how they practice it will vary from oneindividual to another according to their inner capacities, external conditioning, and cultural influence. Individuals will also have their own inner struggles depending on their personal circumstances, which can also impact their faith. There may also be pressure to conform to particular interpretations that are promoted by families, friends or associates. You may wish to just talk to someone about how you feel. You can call us on the MWN Helpline and we are more than happy to be a listening ear.
New Converts / Reverts New converts / reverts may want to find out more about Islam, you can call us too and we will do our best to sign post you to appropriate organisations that can help you. Women who newly embrace Islam may become overwhelmed with advice and attention. However, it is important to speak with a range of organisations and not be pressurised into making decisions by anyone. Examples of pressures faced by new Muslims include: pressurised to marry including into entering polygamous marriages, to wear a headscarf or face veil, changing name, not to see family who are not Muslim, to accept cultural practices that have nothing to do with Islam etc.
Women's Status in Islam Some women may be confused about their rights in Islam and the way in which some women are treated within Muslim communities. The Quran was revolutionary for its time, giving women many rights. Unfortunately some religious scholars give opinions on issues concerning women that are negative or disempowering. We therefore advise that individuals make fully informed decisions by investigating (as much as practically possible) the source of judgments by scholars. It is essential to know whether religious scholars are guiding people towards God's divine will or their personal opinions. We may be able to highlight the varying interpretations that may exist on particular issues and signpost you to them. However, we cannot guarantee that we are able to do this for all issues. A useful booklet on Women's Rights in Islam can be downloaded from this page.
